Innovative technology company Black Beard has been in Parktown North since 2017, solving business problems through leading technology and smart thinking. Co-founder and CEO, Wayne Zwiers, chats to us about the business.
Tell us more about your business.
After years of involvement in various digital agencies, I took a couple of months off, and while consulting to tech companies, I noticed that there was an opportunity to bridge the gap between strategy and tech solutions and that development companies battled to deliver a quality and valuable product on time and so this would be our competitive edge. Black Beard was established in 2017 with the opening of the first office in March 2017 in Centurion, then Parktown North in November and Dublin in June 2018.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
My business partner, Bongani Sithole and I are coffee connoisseurs so great coffee and eateries were key. The area has constant influx of people on the go that suits the personality of our business.
How has the area changed from when you first started to now?
When we opened here, there was massive growth and development taking place in Rosebank, and Parktown North with its great mix of restaurants, businesses and residential continues to have good energy that we first experienced.
Have the changes been for better or worse?
Parktown North continues to see an influx of new businesses and people move into the area which bodes well for our business.
How did you find your premises?
Through a business partner who also has premises in the building.
Why are they ideally suited to your business?
Centrally located and easy accessible.
What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
Fair when compared to Rosebank CBD.
What do you love about this neighbourhood?
Parktown North is close to Rosebank CBD and our major clients, and the vibe suits our flexible working hours.
Any tips for business owners looking to buy/rent in this area?
Look at renovated modern buildings. Offices on the outskirts of Rosebank and Parktown North offer great facilities at good prices.
