What you can expect from this South African favourite this summer
Ocean Basket first opened its doors in 1995 and 22 years later, it’s a firm-family favourite around South Africa. Having been around for that long, Ocean Basket knows how to stay relevant and keep up with food trends. And this summer is no different with three great new offerings to keep you coming back for more.
Summer menu
The new summer menu is all things Mediterranean. Group marketing and menu executive Jean Sloane explains, “This Summer menu focuses on fresh herbs with tangy lemon and is full of colour and crisp flavours, which perfectly complement our growing range of seafood.”
They’ve added several protein-rich salads like the rich smoked trout salad; a queen prawn salad and a light tuna salad with fresh Mediterranean salsa. They’ve also added a few new starters to the line-up like the calamari bowl topped with rocket and Mediterranean salsa, Mediterranean rice balls created using halloumi and herb mayo; crumbless salmon and trout bites; and Spanish anchovies with a Mediterranean salsa – order one of the new Venus platters for the table and sample a selection of starters. For dessert, new ice cream bowls with Turkish delight or halva satisfy the sweet tooth.
Of course, what summer menu would be complete without a few delectable cocktails. Sip a cool Cosmopolitan, Margarita or Long Island Iced tea or enjoy an icy Mojito, Pina Colada or Strawberry daiquiri, all served in a carafe.
#ArtofFusion
Who would think that you could fuse Japanese and Mediterranean? But in keeping with their summer menu, Ocean Basket has infused the two for their sushi menu. World Sushi Champion (Tokyo, Japan) and winner of Most Creative Sushi Chef, Pepi Anevski, who heads up sushi innovation at Ocean Basket, has developed a new fusion of flavours.
Highlights from the menu include the Tuna Sashimi (sesame garlic cream and soy balsamic oil drizzled over tender tuna and garnished with chopped olives and spring onion), Tuna Tulips (tuna wrapped around rice and spiced up with a dash of pickled red onion and coriander cream), and Spicy Roses (salmon wrapped around rice, topped with spicy mayo and crunchy potato strips). But there are plenty more creative additions that are worth sampling.
Nutri-calculator
Lastly, Ocean Basket puts your health needs first with its newly launched nutritional value calculator that provides customers with the nutritional facts and the composition of all of its menu items, allowing for an informed and enhanced dining experience.
Jean explains, “Restaurants are increasingly aware of the need to provide nutritional information for their menus, which you can sometimes find on their websites. But we’ve gone the extra mile, providing calculators that are simple to use on mobile phones, so our customers can know exactly what they’re eating, as they eat it.”
