Irish playwright, critic, polemicist, and political activist Bernard Shaw once said: “There is no sincerer love than the love of food”. And we couldn’t agree with him more. For the residents of Plattekloof, Panorama, Edgemead and Burgundy Estate, they’re spoiled for choice with these great eateries on their doorstep.
Greens Plattekloof
Greens needs little introduction and is a firm favourite with foodies in the know. Its spacious and stylish interior and the comfy atmosphere lends itself to anything from a cosy catch-up over coffee to a long, languid lunch with all the bells and whistles.
The breakfast offering includes freshly baked croissants, a lavish traditional English spread, perfectly prepared Eggs Benedict and extras such as moreish muffins and scones. And when it comes to lunch, there are plenty of innovative salads on offer (such as the delectable salmon, prawn and avo combination), as well as rustic rolls with a variety of scrumptious fillings, and yummy salmon and hake fish cakes. More substantial options range from ocean fresh linefish to braised lamb shank, and the line-up of drinks and cocktails at the fully stocked bar completes the picture.
Knead Panorama
This ever-popular artisan bakery and neighbourhood cafe franchise is known far and wide for its oven-fresh bread, pastries and confectionery and customers keep coming back for the wholesome and versatile menu, relaxed atmosphere and handcrafted expertise. Since the first Knead opened its doors in 2006 in Wembley Square, there’s been no stopping to this winning recipe and Knead Panorama is no exception. Here, every item is made from scratch, without any preservatives, improvers, premixes or stabilisers, and only local stoneground flour is used. The baking starts bright and early in the morning and treats include confectionary, sweet and savoury pastries, pies, cookies, muffins and cupcakes.
