ADVERTORIAL
It’s the time of year when everybody gets together to celebrate the festive season in many ways, and Melrose Arch is no exception with a programme full of entertainment for the whole family
If there’s one thing we’ve learnt in the last two years, it’s to be grateful for both the big and small things, celebrate every achievement, and rejoice and enjoy the festivities whenever an occasion arises, and that’s exactly what Melrose Arch is doing this festive season. Celebrating this special time wouldn’t be the same without a visit to appreciate Melrose Arch’s famous lights, which are being turned on Friday, 12 November at 7:30 pm. Stroll through the precinct and take photos of the beautiful, illuminated streets, and buy a hotdog, sweets, biltong or ice cream on High Street or visit one of your favourite restaurants for dinner.
Spirit of cheer
The annual Christmas Market is where you’ll find arts and crafts, festive season decorations, fashion items, handy gadgets and more – in other words, the perfect present, so don’t miss it! The market takes place from 2 to 4 December. While not a traditionally South African instrument, the bagpipes are very popular here, as is evident in the response of crowds whenever the Jeppe Pipe Band plays at Melrose Arch. We’re pleased to welcome this special band back on Friday, 26 November at 6:45 pm. Come meander through the precinct with them as they play seasonal favourites against the backdrop of our beautiful lights.

Of course, this time of the year is all about children and Melrose Arch has entertainment lined up to keep the little ones busy. Santa’s Corners, in the middle and upper-level Galleria, have a host of fun activities lined up, including story hours, painting, toys and Santa Claus and his elves. Melrose Arch has also teamed up with Moove Motion Fitness Club’s Kids Club and from 12 November to 9 January, young visitors aged between five and 13 will be able to enjoy basketball, action soccer, trampolines, table tennis, a jungle gym and a Playstation 5 arcade area between 3pm and 9.30pm. All proceeds from the Moove Motion Fitness Club’s Kids Club will be donated to SA Harvest, Melrose Arch’s selected charity for Destination Christmas.
Welcoming new tenants
The festive season celebrations come at the end of a remarkable year at Melrose Arch, which despite the pandemic and difficult financial times, has welcomed a number of new tenants to the precinct, including Turkish restaurant Istanbul Kebab, Swirl ice cream, Koodoo, Walkingpad, Premier Body and Health, fashion boutiques Opulence, Jo Matthys and Chiefs of Angels, and more.
“Now, more than ever, we’ve realised the importance of sharing special times with special people, especially our families,” says Mike Vermaak, MD of Melrose Arch. “The festive season is always a memorable time of the year and here at Melrose Arch, we’re pleased to welcome people to our beautifully decorated, safe precinct and help create memories they’ll cherish forever. This year, we have a lot to rejoice in and be grateful for, so let’s celebrate!”
