Tintswalo Atlantic, located within the Table Mountain National Park, is offering all their South African visitors a winter warmer package – a night’s stay for two people in one of their sea-facing king units, as well as a light lunch on arrival with a welcome bottle of wine, and a full breakfast, at R7,060 (running until 31 August).

Located at the foot of Chapman’s Peak perched on a pebble beach, Tintswalo Atlantic’s hideaway location makes it the perfect romantic getaway for winter days, so when we were invited to enjoy the all-enveloping comforts of one of Cape Town’s best-kept secrets, we knew we were in for a unique winter experience.

It seems appropriate that one of the world’s most scenic drives, Chapman’s Peak Drive, is what will take you to this secluded slice of heaven. As you reach the turnoff just before the tollgate, you’ll park your car so that a shuttle can take you down to the five-star boutique lodge towards the ocean, adding to that remote feeling, even though you can see Hout Bay a short distance away.

Once you arrive, that’s when the real magic happens. You’re greeted by the sound of waves breaking on the rocks practically right at your feet and you’ll take in the panoramic view across the Atlantic Ocean towards Hout Bay and the Sentinel Mountain range.

Each room comes with an en-suite bathroom, an ocean view and balcony to enjoy it from, as well as a wood-burning fireplace, which is best enjoyed with a glass of red wine from your welcome bottle.

Though dinner isn’t included in the winter package, it’s well worth stopping by the restaurant before you retire to your bedroom to fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean. The restaurant, under the guidance of executive chef Guy Clark, is all about creating memorable meals using fresh, locally-sourced and sustainable ingredients. The menu changes with the season and the availability of ingredients.

Highlights from the five-course dinner included the starter of braised springbok with pine-ring mushroom, poached leeks and a butternut puree, and the main course of chimichurri bone marrow and beef fillet served with potato done two ways, smoked broccolini and shitake mushrooms. Each course has a vegetarian option ensuring everyone is taken care of, and the kitchen is always happy to take in any other dietary requirements.

The full breakfast the next morning is a leisurely affair as you tuck into the three courses, sipping on coffee and bubblies while taking in the dramatic scenery.

A stay at Tintswalo Atlantic is all about moving into a lower gear and taking things easy. It’s truly a location like no other and allows you the space and calm to really feel rejuvenated away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
