One of our favourite spots in Pretoria to meet friends, eat great food and hang out, Meet on Milner is a unique restaurant not only for its superb food, but for its vision.
When Yente Pienaar, the restauranteur behind Meet on Milner, opened the spot in 2013 in Pretoria East, he wanted it to be a place where locals could meet – a relaxed spot for good food, drinks and conversation. The emphasis of the food is on homegrown organic produce beautifully prepared, and there are a number of specialities that locals return for again and again.
The menu is extensive, with delicious salads (the poached pear, gorgonzola, walnut and cranberries is our particular favourite), bruschetta (garlic prawns, basil pesto, avo, rocket and pine nuts please!), small plates of tapas (artichoke balls with pecorino, honey and thyme won our hearts) and mains (we couldn’t resist the Milner royal stack – beef fillet, exotic mushrooms, goats cheese, pine nuts and rocket, smothered in Roquefort sauce). If you still have space for dessert, the mocha spring rolls are superb.
The restaurant is chic and classy, with beautiful décor and Instagram-worthy chandeliers, but it’s not just the restaurant that makes this such a special spot. They also host street fair markets occasionally, with live music, fabulous food and sangria – taking the vision of the local neighbourhood restaurant one step further.
If you’re looking for somewhere special for a memorable meal, Meet on Milner is an excellent choice.
