Mpfeni Beauty Spot is a beauty salon in Brooklyn/Nieu Muckleneuk area that offers treatments designed to pamper and restore the balance and energy within. It specialises in waxing, facials, peels, massages, tinting, pedicures and manicures.
How did your business start?
After I worked in the beauty industry for seven years, I decided to start my own business. After I gave birth to my daughter, I felt that I was ready to go on my own and I was ready for something new.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
This area is quite busy and it is close to Brooklyn Mall. I wanted to be centrally positioned in an upmarket area. I am also very conveniently surrounded by many offices.
How did you find your premises?
I found my premises through a friend who was working in the hair salon at the time. She told me about the space that they were renting out inside the shop.
Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
It is very convenient for ladies who go to the hair salon to also have their beauty treatments done at the same time; this saves them quite a lot of time. Because I am close to many offices, it is easy for clients to come and have their treatments done during their lunchtime. This means that they will have more time to spend with their families during weekends.
Who are your neighbours?
My neighbours are Herman Manufacturing Jewellers and a SARS practitioners unit.
What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
Because I’m renting a spot inside the hair salon, the renting price is a lot better compared to someone who would have to pay the rent all by themselves.
What is your shop footprint?
About eight to 10 people will come for treatments per day.
Do you have any expansion plans?
Yes, I would like to grow and expand my business by employing more people.
Do you operate online as well?
No, not yet, but I will be starting soon.
What’s your most popular service?
I do a lot of waxing and pedicures.
