Mint Language Consultancy in Fourways is a corporate communications firm that offers a range of language-based services. Munene Khoza, founder and principal consultant, tells us more about her business.
How did your business start?
My passion for words led me to study English and linguistics at university. I started off in management consulting and worked for five years, including a stint in specialised communications consultancy. I always felt a strong pull towards corporate storytelling, so in July 2016 I started my own business. Mint is about bridging the gap between the two and helping people find then right words.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
The offices are close to the highway and major roads, making it easy to commute to Pretoria, Kempton Park and Roodepoort.
How did you find your premises?
My sister, who runs an office in this space, told me about the premises. After being shown around, I knew they were right for my business.
Why are they ideally suited to your business?
There’s a feeling of being home, with the right infrastructure to support a growing business.
Who are your neighbours?
This part of Leslie Avenue has become a business hub with a number of small to medium-sized businesses.
What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
Rentals are highly competitive compared to offices closer to the Sandton CBD.
How many people visit your business each day?
We mostly visit our clients. When they do visit our offices, we see no more than three each day.
Do you have any expansion plans?
In the last year, we’ve grown from two people to five passionate linguists. We hope to steadily grow our team and client book as much as possible this year.
Do you operate online as well?
Our business requires personal interaction. However, we have a website and social media presence: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
What’s your most popular services?
Storytelling through web copy, corporate profiling and social media.
