SafeRingz SA’s wedding bands are safe, non-conductive, heat-resistant and durable, making them perfect for electricians, firefighters, mechanics, construction workers, police and anyone who works with their hands. Made from biocompatible, medical-grade silicone, they’re also great for nurses, medical technicians and anyone who has to wear gloves. Owner Letitia Bouwer tells us more about the Centurion-based business.
How did your business start?
Back in 2015, a friend of mine bought herself one of these silicone rings from the US and I was intrigued. I ordered one for my husband and one for myself but never received them. The rings were not yet available in South Africa at the time and I thought there was a real need for these products. It was then that SafeRingz SA was born. We officially opened on 1 June 2015.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
I chose Weirda Park as this is where I stay. It’s also conveniently situated between Joburg and Pretoria, which makes delivery of orders quick and easy.
How did you find your premises?
I was specifically looking for a house which had an area big enough to convert into an office. It took quite a few months before I found the perfect place online. I then worked through an estate agent for the final transactions.
Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
I don’t need a lot of space for my products, basically just office space. Working from home makes it very easy for the couriers to collect orders from my premises daily. It’s also convenient for customers collecting their orders, as my home is centrally located.
Who are your neighbours?
Residential owners and a few small businesses.
What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
The prices in Centurion, especially in Wierda Park, are slightly higher compared to other areas. But it’s a small price to pay to be centrally located.
How many people visit your business each day?
We’re fortunate that our sales have doubled year on year since 2015. Currently, we get between 50 and 80 orders per month.
Do you have any expansion plans?
Not at this stage as we currently have enough space for all our products.
Do you operate online as well?
Yes, I would say that 95% of my sales are online. We’re also active on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
What’s your most popular item?
