PeppaComm, a local app-development company boasting several big-brand clients, first launched in 2016 from their home office in Broadacres and moved to a flexible working space early this year at The Business Exchange in Rosebank to better serve their clients’ needs. Managing director Donald Baillie tells us more.
How did your business start?
Following the emergence of app development in the US, we decided to make mobile apps more accessible to organisations who could not traditionally afford the high costs of custom development in South Africa at the time. We built the PeppaComm platform to reduce that cost to a small monthly license fee. As a result, our clients get their own white-labelled, fully-branded app presence in the app stores in under two weeks and can administer their own content, much like WordPress for Apps.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
We needed an accessible and centrally located area and Rosebank was the perfect choice.
How did you find your premises?
We looked at various flexible office spaces that would allow us to use and pay for the space as and when needed, and The Business Exchange ticked the right boxes.
Why are they ideally suited to your business?
The Business Exchange is easily accessible and flexible which suits our business needs. We love the regular networking functions and the corporate facilities we can use, such as fully serviced meeting rooms.
What are office rental/sales prices like in this area?
They are affordable and depends on the space being rented out.
Who are your neighbours?
Our neighbours include [dot]GOOD and IntelliCred.
How many people come through your office each day?
We see about 10 to 20 people each day.
Do you have any expansion plans?
We recently set up an office in Cape Town and are rapidly growing our market share in the Western Cape and surrounds. Once we have decent market penetration locally, we want to expand globally.
Do you operate online as well?
Yes, our business is geared to service potential clients globally and we also use Skype extensively for online meetings and training. We have a website as well as Facebook (@peppacomm), LinkedIn (linkedin.com/company/peppacomm) and Twitter (@peppacomm) accounts.
What’s your most popular service?
Our corporate communication app which aids employee engagement and lets you do all sorts of things from booking boardrooms to ordering your lunch from the canteen at the push of a button.
