Living Room
A high-end rooftop venue in the heart of downtown Maboneng, the Living Room specialises in events, including weddings, magazine launches and birthday parties. It’s open to the public too, from Thursday through to Sunday, when you can enjoy a line-up of amazing DJs, cocktail specials and delicious food. “We thrive on urban resuscitation and creating a beautiful jungle in a concrete environment,” says events coordinator Cara de Kock. “People come from all over the city to laze in the sun, dance and have the best time.”
Flames at The Four Seasons
Joburg’s iconic hilltop hotel, renovated and relaunched as Four Seasons The Westcliff, is still one of the best places in the city to drink in the view of the world’s largest urban forest. The bar area at the informal Flames restaurant is the place to mingle with friends as you lounge around on couches, sip on sophisticated cocktails and view the Jozi skyline. You may even catch sight of an elephant taking its daily bath at the Joburg zoo.
Southern Sun Hyde Park
The city’s well-heeled flock to this striking hotel bar to enjoy expansive views of the city as they mingle around the infinity pool and unwind on oversized chairs. Sit inside around the wraparound bar under sparking chandeliers and do some people-watching, or head outside to watch the sun go down as you enjoy a cold beer. Later, relax in the whisky and cigar lounge as DJs entertain the crowds well into the evening.
