Located in the vibey suburb of Linden, Sherbet Angel, one of Joburg’s leading beauty destinations, has experienced beauty specialists and is a favourite spot for those looking to be pampered. Lisa Rautenbach, founder and one of the owners, tells us more.
How did your business start?
My mother, Jo Gardener, and I initially started the business in 2011 in Parkhurst. We closed the business after over five years and the business changed hands with Nicole Blazevic and Mareli Gardner joining me and together, we set up shop in June last year in Linden. We all have extensive experience in the beauty industry having studied and worked together for many years in the film, makeup artistry and beauty industry. We wanted to bring an innovative edge to the business, hence the launch of the Beauty Bus.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
Linden is a bustling suburb with a fantastic cafe culture and an amazing community.
How did you find your premises?
We have a friend in Linden with a business and we had asked her if she knew anyone or places for rental as we had been looking to leave Parkhurst.
Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
We love the look and feel and the double volume creates a sense of a bigger space. It’s a bonus to be neighbours with Van der Linde – their food and drinks are divine, and the foot traffic the restaurant generates, works to our advantage.
What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
Well-priced and we are very lucky to have amazing and understanding landlords.
How many people visit your salon each day?
On average, around 15.
Do you operate online as well?
We sell vouchers on our website and we also have active social media pages – Facebook (Sherbet Angel/Beauty Bus), Instagram (sherbetangelsalon/beautybus.sa) and Twitter (@SherbetAngel/@BeautyBus).
Do you have any expansion plans?
We have just launched South Africa’s first ever fully kitted Beauty Bus and we see opportunities to expand this in future.
What’s your most popular service?
Manicures and pedicures with a gel polish.
