Sara Abel (left) and her sister Ady Cohen

Together with her sister Ady, Sara Abel runs vOILa Africa, independent distributors for Young Living Essential Oils. Both Ady and Sara left their day jobs to pursue running their own business and today have 400 members working in their team. Here, she tells us about her suburb Sea Point, and why she loves it.

Where do you live? I live in Sea Point in Cape Town. Sea Point is its own little village, with great restaurants and boutique shops, and the best part is that it has the beach on its doorstep!

Is there anyone in your community doing something special? My younger sister, Dr Vanessa Lapiner, is a dermatologist in Sea Point and she donates a percentage of her business to kids who suffer from a condition called Xeroderma Pigmentosum. These kids cannot go into the sunlight as they suffer from a rare UV light-sensitivity. Basically, they are allergic to the sun. They have a special camp which takes place at night for these kids to be able to go outside and play under the moonlight.

Green Point Urban Park

Favourite Sundowner spot? My husband and I love going to sit on the deck at the Winchester Mansions boutique hotel and watch the sun going down.

Best way to spend a Sunday? It’s the best to be able to wake up late (if the dogs let me sleep in, as I have 5 dogs and two of them are rescue puppies!), go to Kleinsky’s for a delicious breakfast with my husband, Mike. My favourite thing to have is the green juice and the eggs, mushrooms, onions and spinach brekkie. Then it’s home to hang out with my three boys, read a good book or catch up on some favourite series on Netflix! We usually have a braai for supper.

Hidden gem? Mike and I are movie-holics! We love going to the Labia, which is an old-school cinema on Orange Street. It was originally an Italian embassy ballroom, so it is full of charm and old-world ambience.

Best walk? I love walking around the Green Point Urban Park. There is lots of green space and well as beautiful plants and flowers. The little coffee shop is also great to sit at and watch the kids play.

The best experience in Cape Town and surrounds? We are members of the Zeitz Mocaa, which has the most wonderful selection of contemporary African art. We can spend hours wandering around looking at the exhibitions. After our dose of culture, we go up to the Silo Hotel for delicious tea and scones.
