Finding places to eat out when you’re vegan is a challenge. Finding delicious, fresh, healthy places even more so. That’s why we’ve rounded up our pick of the best vegan restaurants and cafés in Cape Town so you don’t have to do any homework!

Plant Café, Buiten St
What’s not to love about this delicious café with an extensive menu of homemade-everything… From beetroot burgers to tofu, desserts, smoothies and pressed juices, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Raw and Roxy, Bree St
This delicious restaurant offers sweet and savoury slow food that’s both raw and vegan. Their smoothies are some of the best in town, and their raw pasta (with zoodles) is a favourite, as is their raw vegan sushi.

Food Lover’s Market Café, Newspaper House
The finest Food Lover’s Market you’ve ever seen, this St George’s Mall locale is more of a boutique grocer than anything else, with a good selection of vegan options in the salad bar (including full ingredients list!)

The Hungry Herbivore, Orphan St
Raw vegan food that’s packed with flavour – think raw pizza with cashew cream ‘cheese’, organic dried tomatoes, avo and sweet bell peppers, and blueberry vanilla cheesecake with dates, almonds and cacao. They also serve breakfast, burgers, smoothies, juices and Origin coffee.

Orchard on Long, Long St
This juice and health bar is a display of all the fresh produce available in Cape Town, with made to order juices, smoothies and vegan treats. More of a take-away than a sit-down spot, it’s perfect for grabbing a vegan juice or smoothie as you wander around town.

Addis in Cape, Church St
This Ethopian restaurant has a menu full of vegan and vegetarian eats, with those dishes that contain dairy clearly labelled. Treat your tastebuds to a flavour sensation for lunch or dinner – a great spot to eat with a group of friends.

Gold Restaurant, Bennett St
Something of a tourist attraction, this isn’t a local experience at all but still one for the books if you’re looking for a fun night out. Gold offers a 14 dish culinary tour of Africa (with entertainment – lots of drumming!) and there’s a vegan option available.

Vegan 02

Masala Dosa, Long St
A delicious Indian feast of vegan dishes – ask for them spicy if you like an extra kick. There’s also a superb vegan lassi and the chickpea curry is something to write home about…

Dear Me, Longmarket St
This gourmet brasserie caters to vegans, vegetarians and those with food intolerances without sacrificing flavour. They happily cater to those with unusual food requirements and whip up dishes that are just as beautiful as you would hope for from one of Cape Town’s favourite restaurants.

Honest Chocolate, Wale St
Vegan-friendly and some of the best chocolate in Cape Town, what could be better? Clearly labelled vegan, gluten-free and raw vegan options abound, and the treats and drinks are to die for.
