The Rembrothers Group have finally opened their second Old Town Italy restaurant, right here in Menlyn Maine. This gourmet haven for Italian foodie enthusiasts opened on 28 September, and Pretorians have been swept away by the delicacies presented by Renzo Scribante and Clifford Barratt, the brains behind Old Town Italy.

The space

Upon arriving at Old Town Italy, you quickly realise that the unassuming exterior is somewhat deceptive. Once you enter the restaurant, the gleaming and voluminous space is bustling with patrons chatting away. There is also detailed decor and signage, and various stalls with Italian treats manned by friendly staff. The space has perfectly curated shelves with a variety of imported culinary goods and freshly prepared baked treats. The owners successfully created a space where visitors can break away to the old-world charm of the Italian countryside.

The food

The menu contains authentic Italian dishes while steering clear of cliches. With choices that include creating your own deli board with the variety of imported cured meats and cheeses available, or traditional antipasti, mains and desserts, the whole party will be satisfied. If you like to keep it simple, the Gnocchi al Gorgonzola, although rich and creamy, is surprisingly light and flavoursome; it’s the perfect choice if you would like to explore the menu by selecting various dishes or if you’d like a light lunch.

The drinks

The utmost care has been taken to ensure that the drinks menu has a wide variety of Italian beverages. There is an extensive selection of Italian wines, Italian craft beer, Prosecco, Limoncello, Grappa and imported Venchi hot chocolate – for those with a sweet tooth. La Dolcé Vita Caffé, the coffee of choice at Old Town, is available in three blends. The house blend, Lusso, is a robust and rich coffee; it’s the perfect way to end off your meal.

The details

The restaurant is open from Monday to Sunday, 7am to 9pm. Old Town Italy operates on a first come, first served basis. The ample seating area serves guests well with a short waiting time, which is perfect for browsing the imported chocolates, the charcuterie offerings, the dried pasta and wines.
