Personal Medical Claims Assistants (PMCA) is the first company in South Africa to use the term “medical PA”. It gives its clients peace of mind, by ensuring their claims are paid accurately, on time and more often. It calls the medical aids on behalf of the member to follow up on all medical claims. Kyle van Wyk is the proud owner.
How did your business start?
It all began when I was working as a call centre agent within the medical aid industry. I did this for six years and identified a gap in the market with individual medical aid members struggling to keep up with the benefit of having a medical aid. People currently spend hours on phone calls talking to agents about codes that they do not understand. We deal with these situations on behalf of our clients. Therefore, we have the name “medical PA”.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
I stay in this area (Pretoria East, Weavind Park); therefore, I also use it as my place of business. My clientele is national, though.
How did you find your premises?
I found the premises on OLX.
Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
Gauteng is ideal as it is close to most of the head offices of large businesses.
Who are your neighbours?
My neighbours are homeowners.
What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
The rental prices are quite reasonable.
What is your shop footprint?
I don’t have any clients coming to my premises, as we operate telephonically and via email. It depends on the queries, but our client base is currently under 100.
Do you have any expansion plans?
We do intend on moving into our own office space by the end of 2017. This would mean that we would be employing no less than 10 new call agents.
Do you operate online as well?
Yes, we do.
What’s your most popular service?
Our most popular service would be “Family Assist”, which covers a family of four.
