For six years, Newtown’s Turbine Hall has been transformed into a melting pot of talent and creativity as the RMB Turbine Art Fair takes over its iconic halls to present some of the greatest works coming out of Africa.

Aimed at championing established and new talent in an accessible environment, the art fair is for everyone – “from established collectors looking to discover young talent or find a small gem by a well-known artist, to aspiring and emerging collectors who want to expand their knowledge about collecting in a warm and welcoming environment, as well as finding affordable, good-quality contemporary South African art they can trust”, says Glynis Hyslop, founder of Turbine Art Fair and MD of The Forum Company.

A unique arts festival that brings together galleries and artists to present and sell works, the RMB Turbine Art Fair is also known for its presentation of a series of special projects for visitors to view, made up of an interactive talks programme, daily walkabouts with celebrities, art professionals and well-known artists, installations, and the graduate show.

An undeniable highlight of the projects will be the Talent Unlocked by RMB exhibition: the culmination of a six-month intensive workshop programme that has integrated practical art making and professional practice training for 19 up-and-coming young South African artists. Each of the artists has spent the last six months under the mentorship of four established South African artists learning not just how to develop their work, but also how to sustain an art career. At the fair their inspiring works will be presented in an exhibition curated by Fulufhelo Mobadi – an incredible new curator who is quickly making a name for herself as one to watch in the South African art scene.

With all pieces priced below R50,000, the RMB Turbine Art Fair works hard to make viewing and buying art not just fun, but also uniquely accessible.

Running from 12 to 15 July, tickets to the art fair are just R100 for adults and R50 for children when bought online in advance via Webtickets (goo.gl/gzPXBq) and makes for an incredible cultural weekend trip.
