Head to Bruskies on Florida Road in Durban and it feels exactly the same as meeting up with your friends at their home.

Feels like home

Great beer, good grub and a seat at a table in a spot that feels like home. Well, that’s if your home has two levels, a wraparound balcony, big screens and a well-stocked bar thrown in for good measure.

Kick off your shoes

Don’t let the elegant Victorian exterior fool you – Bruskies is not some stiff-upper-lip joint that requires you to wear a tie and talk like you’ve got a hot potato in your mouth. Instead, it’s a more of a “kick off your shoes in elegant comfort” place; that’s definitely the setting for many a night out with the mates, or a place to pop in before your big night out. Whether you’re in a rowdy crowd or just looking to enjoy a quiet drink and some great pub grub, Bruskies should be on your list. A wide selection of craft and casual beers is on offer, with snacks and meals that make great accompaniments.

About that grub

Bruskies’s menu reads like that of your normal pub, but the meals aren’t soaking in oil when they reach your table. Burgers, nachos and board snacks make up the majority of what’s on offer. But, trust me on this one, have the onion rings. Onion rings get a bad rap usually as some sort of oily side serving that makes for a poor accompaniment to a great meal. Bruskies reverses that trend, serving up crispy, fresh and flipping fabulous onion rings that I still can’t stop thinking about. Order up a Kopparberg Pear Cider, two sides of onion rings with your burger, and settle in to watch the game. Bruskies is open for lunch and dinner, with the kitchen closing at 10pm, but the bar stays open until late.
