Boland Cellar treated media to a day of food and wine in honour of International Drink Chenin Blanc Day as well as their 75th birthday.
Founded in 1941, Boland Cellar in the beautiful Paarl Valley is one of South Africa’s oldest wine producing cellars and a regional specialist with a history of crafting internationally acclaimed wines.
The ethos of collaboration which led to the establishment of Boland has remained until today and with growers, employees, agents and stakeholders working together, Boland has become one of South Africa’s leading brands. Prime vineyards across various climatic zones guarantee consistency in style and quality year after year.
In collaboration with Food Jams by Jade De Waal (Masterchef SA contestant, season one), Boland Cellar took us on a new and innovative culinary and wine experience. The day started off with a sample of Boland Cellar’s soon-to-be released Chenin Blanc-based MCC, which should hit shelves in 2017. Then it was off to the kitchen to find out what we were in for.
After hearing cellar master Johan Joubert enthusiastically talk about the potential of Chenin Blanc in SA, it was time to get cooking with a glass of Chenin in hand, of course. We were split into groups and then got to work on our take on the recipes in front of us. What was learnt? I’m apparently I’m better at drinking Chenin Blanc then making Vietnamese spring rolls.
After a great session of way too many cooks in the kitchen, we sat down and enjoyed a family-style meal while enjoying the Five Climates Chenin Blanc.
International Drink Chenin Blanc Day
International Drink Chenin Blanc Day today (17 June) celebrates this amazing and versatile varietal. So today, we encourage you to enjoy International Chenin Blanc Day with a glass of Five Climates Chenin Blanc. Cheers!
Five Climates Range
Inspired by nature’s different climatic zones, each wine in this series represents a single varietal, cultivated from various vineyard sites within the region.
These grapes are blended to create an expression of each varietal with unmatched character.
The Five Climates Range of wines is crafted to appeal to today’s wine drinker, with upfront aromas, juiciness and soft tannins that work together to create easy-drinking wines.
Five Climates Chenin Blanc
The 2016 vintage is an outstanding wine in the typical fresh, crispy and fruity style of Chenin Blanc projecting layers of lime, citrus and fresh guava aromas.
