If there’s one thing that brings a country together, it’s rallying around a national sports team over a game of sport! So, as Bok fever rises and the country bands together once again as the Springboks and England face off in the Castle Lager series, there’s no better way to watch the games than surrounded by your fellow South Africans at Montecasino’s MTN Boktown this month.
MTN Boktown has long been a favourite for Rugby supporters who can’t quite make it to the stadium, and it’s earned a reputation for being a great experience for the entire family. “It’s the home of the Springbok supporter and it’s the next best thing to being in the stadium. Our outdoor piazza comes alive with supporters dressed in green and gold who come to enjoy the atmosphere of the game in the company of die-hard Springbok fans,” says Montecasino’s general manager, Mike Page. “It’s an incredible experience in the gees that South Africans are known for and we provide all the extras to make the experience even more enjoyable – appearances by Springbok legends, beer, boerie rolls (and other eats and drinks), and entertainment.”
Compared to watching the game at home, Mike says there’s no doubt where you’ll have the more memorable experience. “There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being among other Springbok supporters, cheering on the Boks. As Gauteng’s premier entertainment destination, Montecasino offers such a variety of options for entertaining and dining before or after the game, with new restaurants to choose from, movies, the Montecasino Bird Gardens to get the kids out into the winter sunshine before the game, sundowner spots, theatre, and so much more.”
Suitable for all ages, there’s really no surprise that MTN Boktown consistently brings in the crowds. “I love seeing the sea of green and gold cover the piazza – it’s truly heart-warming to see and feel the spirit of our supporters and the pride we as a nation feel for our team. Hearing hundreds of voices echoing across Montecasino is just incredible.”
With so much to do, there’s nowhere else you’ll catch us watching the games this winter.
MTN Boktown will be screening all the games, including the upcoming matches on 23 June. Tickets will cost R30 each and include a free drink.
