Do you like your special brew accompanied by a well-topped ground beef patty wrapped in a bun with all the trimmings imaginable? Then Port Elizabeth‘s beachfront neighourhood is the place for you.
Trendy Craft
Craft is the trendy new addition to the Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment Complex’s already diverse and bustling food line-up. This two-storey outfit is set to entertain locals and out-of-towners alike with its warm atmosphere, beachy vibe and well-trained and attentive staff, and, of course, to tantalise you with its tempting offerings in the diner-style restaurant and bar area.
Drinks at Craft
When it comes to drinks there is plenty of variety, but if you’re a beer lover try the 500ml Jack Black draught. It’s one of the best craft beers around and you’ll find your quaffing experience satisfying and moreish. Other thirst-quenching options include colourful and exotic cocktails, classic wines and schlurping good milkshakes.
Burgers at Craft
As the name suggests, this is an eatery and brewhouse that takes its craft seriously – and we’re not just talking about the beers. The handmade gourmet burgers are a whopping 170g 100% beef and you will have a hard time trying to decide what to choose. Try the Widow Maker – two Craft beef patties with three cheeses, four streaky bacon rashers and beer-battered onion rings.
Having personally tucked into The Big Boy – also with loads of cheese and bacon – I can recommend Craft as one of the best burger spots anywhere in the country. There’s an imaginative selection too, like The Wine Maker, with pinotage onion marmalade; The Dirty Sanchez, with cheddar, sliced jalapenos, refried beans and guacamole; The Grease Strip, boasting streaky bacon, soft egg, hashbrown and fairground onions; and The Cheese Maker, with brie, mozzarella and cheddar.
Ribs, Steaks and More…
Craft is not limited to burgers. Along with ribs and steaks, chicken wings are another speciality, including The Tandoori – a dozen wings, hot and red, with coriander yoghurt – or Chang Mai Chicken, with ginger, garlic, chilli and lemon-grass dressing. Sauces are also dressed up for the occasion, such as the smoked paprika ketchup, smoked garlic mayo and horseradish mayo.
“Whether you’re there for after-work drinks with colleagues, pre-girls-night cocktails or a sit-down meal with family or friends, you will feel at home,” says Boardwalk marketing manager Nqobile Majozi.
