While it may be a public holiday that’s neatly slotted into the middle of a week, it’s not just a regular day off. This Freedom Day celebrate and commemorate our spirit of Ubuntu with these events.
Phansi Museum
Situated in the heart of Glenwood, Phansi Museum is a vibrant and colourful space that showcases some of South Africa’s most mesmerising art and craft collections. To commemorate Human Rights Day, the museum opened a thematic exhibition that showcases images from the Human Rights Portfolio. This commissioned print portfolio is an initiative of Artists for Human Rights Trust, which highlights the work of 29 invited South African artists. Each of the 27 black and white prints represent one of the 27 clauses listed in the South African Bill of Rights. While the exhibition opened on 21 March, it runs until 3 May, and what better way to reflect upon Freedom Day than by being inspired by South African art?
