Date Factory was established at the beginning of February this year by Karien and Johann du Plessis. They focus on keeping couples connected by helping them spend fun and quality time together. They mainly cater to couples who are either stuck in a rut, don’t have enough time, or lack creativity. By taking all the stress and hassle out of planning a date night, they allow the couple to experience the element of surprise and to be excited. Each month, they release new boxes with different themes to keep things interesting and to give their customers options. The date boxes will always contain something good, some food and something for the mood, and are delivered to your door.
How did your business start?
I’ve always enjoyed making special and creative plans for date nights and giving friends some ideas for theirs. We realised there was a gap in the market for a concept like this, as people want instant gratification without any admin or hassle. They want everything to be as easy as possible, so why not outsource your date nights?
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
We are an e-commerce business, but we are based in Centurion in Midstream Estate. This area is safe and we are centrally located for easy access to most of our suppliers.
How did you find your premises?
We wanted to live in a safe environment that is centrally located between Johannesburg and Pretoria, hence we decided to build in Midstream Estate, Centurion.
Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
Being centrally located makes all the logistics so much easier, although one of these days we might need to move to a bigger premises.

Prices for houses in Midstream Estate start at about R2,7m.
What is your shop footprint?
On average we have about 650 visitors on our site per day.
Do you have any expansion plans?
Yes, we do, but everything is a bit hush-hush at the moment.
