A suburban pub should always come equipped with one essential accessory – and that is ease of socialising.

The perfect spot to chill

It may be your straightforward neighbourhood watering hole, but The Duck – which has witnessed various guises and locales over the years – definitely has the advantage of allowing patrons to chat and mix with maximum freedom of movement thanks to a super spacious interior and lengthy bar, along with an open deck and plenty of seating all round.

A home-away-from-home

The Duck – formerly known as The Golden Duck – has become synonymous with a home-away-from-home vibe. A spot ideal for after-work drinks with friends or the place-to-be to catch the big weekend game. There’s plenty of opportunity to do that on an array of strategically placed flat screen TVs.

This venue was originally stationed in Miramar and had humble beginnings as a tiny sports bar in which you could hardly swing a tequila. It underwent a major facelift and expansion boost there before relocating to its current premises in Emerald Square, Mount Pleasant where it enjoys even roomier lodgings.

Mad about sports

The theme is decidedly “sports crazy fan” with plenty of memorabilia decorating the walls and, poignantly enough, some great Muhammad Ali images with one of his impossibly modest signature quotes: “I’m so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and was in bed before the room was dark.”

For your drinking pleasure

Fortunately, the same can be said about service at The Duck. My ice-cold 500ml Castle draught was served up pronto – and there are three other on-tap choices: Black Label, Hansa and Castle Lite. The rest of the refreshment repertoire is thoroughly thirst-quenching with a wide choice of spirits, shooters, ciders and bottled beers.

So, next time you’re in the neighbourhood, why not duck in?
