Few stories are as iconic as that of Cinderella: The young woman living under unfortunate circumstances, evil step mother and all, who sees her fortune change in one fateful night when a prince falls in love with her. From fables, to fairy tales, to Disney, and everything in between, it’s a tale that has been told all over the world for generations, and few iterations are as well-loved as the ballet version, which waltzes into The Teatro at Montecasino this month.

With a highly illustrious and celebrated history behind them, this is the first major season that Joburg Ballet will be having at The Teatro, and they plan to start strong with this unforgettable show. Choreographed by Joburg Ballet’s artistic director Iain MacDonald in 2013, the ballet is set to Johann Strauss’s beautiful champagne-infused melodies. “Strauss composed some of the most enchanting and memorable classical music ever written and Cinderella, his only ballet score, is no exception. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s the perfect outing this holiday season,” Iain said.

The show has been described as brimming with charm and magic, and with Andrew Botha’s glittering designs on hand to light up the theatre, the show seems set to delight both children and adults alike. And because this time of year is about giving, the Joburg Ballet team have also set up a charity drive to help the audience to get into the festive spirit. “We’re inviting our audience members to bring a little magic into a child’s life this Christmas by depositing a gift in our special gift box in the main foyer before any Cinderella performance and we’ll pass it on to our chosen charity, NG Welfare,” continued Iain.

Presented by the thrillingly talented full Joburg Ballet company, Cinderella’s rag-to-riches story plays out beautifully on stage, and whether you’re already a ballet fan, or are just starting to fall in love with the classic art, it’s one that you’ll want to be sure not to miss. Running for just eight performances between 14 and 23 December, it’s guaranteed to get you into the magical holiday spirit. Get your tickets at Computicket: bit.ly/2Ryyb1n.
