Situated in the heart of Braamfontein, Mr Big Stuff has been buzzing since it opened in June last year. It’s one place that you should make sure you visit soon.
A bright hang-out on Juta Street, Mr Big Stuff is the cheeky child of Angie Durrant Batis, Shane Durrant, and Craig Durrant. No strangers to the restaurant business, Angie and Shane are the original creators of Wolves and The Good Luck Club in Illovo, and the Durrant brothers are known for making up half of the band Desmond and The Tutus. Add to this Angie’s long history as an art director and the face behind the blog luckypony.co.za, and it’s no surprise that these three incredible creatives have come together to make something wonderful.
What to expect
So, what can you expect when planning a date with Mr Big Stuff? A quirky and warm American-style diner and takeaway joint with an emphasis on delicious food. Inspired by a love for Japanese trends and unexpected pops of colour, the laid-back space will have you leaving with a smile as big as the ones covering the walls.
The star of Mr Big Stuff, however, is of course the food. Reminding you why you miss bread and ice cream, the menu is packed full of tasty options. With a focus on simple and delicious meals, everything is made fresh, right down to the brioche rolls for the Mr Big Stuff Burger. Pop in and try the Mac n Cheese Burger or the Chicken and Waffles (complimented with either mustard syrup or gravy) and then top your meal off with an incredible shake – our favourites are Choc Peanut Butter and Coffee Condensed Milk.
If your belly is feeling stuffed just reading this, don’t worry – light meals on the menu include a fantastic feta, avo, and pepperdew wrap, as well as an incredible grilled chicken salad. But with the option of drinking Big Stuff Lager and eating a beef burger topped with a slab of deep-fried Mac n Cheese instead, you’re gonna have a hard time choosing.
