Residents and visitors to Hout Bay have so much to choose from when it comes to quality eateries, and whether it’s a quick breakfast or a romantic dinner – there’s a restaurant to suit every occasion!
Mariner’s Wharf:
Offering three options (the Wharfside Grill, the Wharfette Bistro and Fisherman’s Wharf), Mariner’s Wharf certainly needs no introduction and has been a mainstay on Hout Bay’s restaurant scene for years. The Wharfside Grill is a seafood restaurant of note (the Fisherman’s Baskets are simply fantastic), the Wharfette Bistro serves piping-hot alfresco take-outs (such as fish and chips) and Fisherman’s Wharf specialises in fresh fish, live lobsters, as well as local and imported seafood.
Cheynes:
The unique menu at Cheynes features four sections – sea, land, earth and happy endings – and all the dishes are starter-sized and meant to be shared. Asian influences abound and there are plenty of yummy exotic dishes.
Massimo’s: From the sputini (delicious Italian snacks meant as quick bites while you wait for your pizza) to the pizzas of the day made in a wood-burning oven (and using real Fiordilatte-mozzarella), Massimo’s now also offers a full vegan menu and a doggy menu, and is open seven days a week.
Spiro’s:
Looking for traditional, authentic Greek food made with love and care? Spiro’s has it all, and more. Owner Spiro Ragavelas’ sheer passion for good food and people is infectious and this is where great food, a great atmosphere and a warm welcome all add up to memorable experiences.
Kitima’s:
The delicious dishes on offer at this stylish restaurant is a brilliant compilation taken from numerous traditional Asian cuisines, with the emphasis on the Royal Thai cuisine. Using ingredients sourced from the best local suppliers as well as imported ones, Kitima is all about delivering a truly authentic Asian dining experience.
Dario’s:
If you want an authentic Italian ‘bar’ experience, then head over to Dario’s for your fix of not only great coffee, but also a daily buzz of conviviality. It’s child-friendly too and delicious bites are par for the course, from sandwiches to salads, pastas, burgers, pancakes and more.
The Hout Bay Market:
Held on Fridays from 5-9pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.30am to 4pm, this lively market is located in an old fish factory and boasts a lively atmosphere. The huge variety of food on offer is a veritable celebration of South African fare and well worth tucking into while browsing through the various art, craft, fashion and décor stalls.
The Lookout Deck:
As the name suggests, the views from this eatery are absolutely sublime, but so is the food! Serving some seriously good sushi, as well as a premium seafood (think Cape Rock Lobster and LM prawns), plump oysters and the finest cuts of local A-grade meats too..
Dunes Beach Restaurant and Bar:
Pick and choose from yummy breakfasts, exquisite light lunches and marvelous dinners at this well-known eatery where parents can sit back and relax while their little ones enjoy the playground. The vast menu and idyllic setting also makes Dunes perfect for parties and celebrations and various options are available.
