There’s no better way to celebrate this coming summer than by sitting outdoors with a few friends and enjoying the finest things in life. That is exactly what Ice Cream Sunday has on offer today.
A sweet collaboration…
A collaboration between Prep’ed by Sasha, Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream, designer Mikasa Does Stuff, and Unit8, Ice Cream Sunday has become somewhat of a Joburg institution, and a definite end-of-the-month highlight for the city’s coolest people. Taking place at Unit8 in Bramley, Ice Cream Sunday happens in an outdoor courtyard that oozes cool and makes for the perfect chill-out area.
2016 has been a hugely successful year for Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream, with a new store opening in the Rosebank Zone, but Ice Cream Sunday remains one of this brand’s flagship projects, and the last Sunday of the month wouldn’t be the same in Joburg without it.
Instagrammable!
But while ice cream definitely takes the limelight for the day, it’s often presented alongside incredible cakes and delicious sweet treats that’ll make you smile. Previous menu options included a Turkish Delight Taco (served with toasted marshmallow satays, lychee syrup, and Turkish delight and rose crumble) and a portion of fries made from sponge fingers with berry sorbet and “salt and pepper” dust. Apart from being ridiculously tasty, the meals are also probably some of the most Instagram-worthy in the country.
Fun in the sun…
While you’re chilling out on the simple yet stylish wooden benches and tables outdoors, you’ll also be treated to even more proudly South African talent in the form of live bands and chilled out local DJs spinning relaxing tunes to set the scene. Wine and beer will also be on sale, so you can find a seat in the sun, sit back, and enjoy a perfect Sunday with some of your favourite people. With free entrance and a system of first come, first served, you’ll want to get there as soon as you can.
