Give your wallet a break with these January food and drinks specials around Jozi

With the festive season having come and gone, you may be feeling the pinch as you head into the new year. To tide you over until payday arrives, we’ve rounded up the best deals for food and drinks in and around Jozi.

Half price margaritas at Perron

If you’re putting off the alcohol detox until February, you’re in luck. Perron is ready to fill its customers’ lives with “Hell Yeas and Hallelujahs” in January and February with its seasonal half-price margarita special. Along with savouring authentic Mexican food at one of its three restaurants (in Illovo, Bryanston and Melville), you can now enjoy half-price margarita jugs on Mondays from 5pm, and Tuesdays to Thursdays between 3pm and 6pm. Get excited – and arrive thirsty.

Launched at the end of 2017, FindWine is a nifty website that helps you find and compare prices of the best award-winning South African wines, all in one place. Each wine is given a unique “smart rating” based on its awards and prestige, and only wines that are available to order online are listed. This means you can compare prices on great wines from respected online merchants, choose the price that suits you and then have your red, white or bubbly delivered to your door. No more standing around at wine shops, staring at labels and debating prices. Now that makes buying wine as enjoyable as drinking it.

Leafy Greens summer buffet special

If you’re up for lunch out of the city, Leafy Greens restaurant in Muldersdrift is now offering specials on its Friday, Saturday and Sunday lunch buffets. Small plates range from R85 to R125, and large plates range from R125 to R165. The holistic, plant-based buffet is designed around whatever is in the Leafy Greens garden at the time, so ingredients are mostly organic, local and seasonal. Most dishes are gluten-free and all are free of dairy and refined sugars, so choose this as your ideal healthy January eating option.

Roost 50% Happy Hour

Fast becoming a Linden local favourite, Rosto’s Italian street-food-inspired restaurant’s specialty is three flavours of rotisserie chicken cooked on a roaring wood fire – and the chicken is free-range, so there are no hormones or antibiotics in sight. Starting now, you can also enjoy half-price craft beer, cocktails, wines and ice teas during the “aperitivo” happy hour on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 3pm to 6pm.
