The Flavours of The City festival comes to Joburg, bringing together the city’s different tastes and cultures.
Foodies, listen up: as April draws to a close, the Indaba Hotel will become home to the ultimate in culinary indulgence. On 29 and 30 April, this landmark destination will host Flavours of The City – a food and lifestyle show that’s guaranteed to be the perfect day out for all palates.
Flavours of The City is about foodies from different cultures and tastes coming together to enjoy a huge selection of modern and traditional cuisines from all over the city. The weekend-long festival celebrates all things deliciously South African, with an emphasis on supporting local businesses, while eating like a king.
The Flavours of The City belief is that heritage informs taste, and that truly tasting something is about more than just flavour, so to get to the bottom of Joburg’s distinct taste, you need to take into account the people, buildings, traditions and dreams of the city. Flavours of The City works hard to do this through the variety of food and entertainment on offer over the weekend.
The team behind Flavours of The City describes the festival as “an amuse-bouche of Johannesburg’s most delectable dishes, juicy cocktails, craft beers and some of the most relished food trucks around”. A picnic-style affair, the idea is that guests handpick their individual menus from the exhibitors, creating a personal explosion of flavour.
Expect everything from traditional Durban curries, to Hungarian smoked meat products and desserts like nitrogen ice cream and fresh Sally Williams nougat. And if you don’t feel like wandering around, you can always book yourself a luxurious pre-catered and kitted out picnic spot, complete with a personal waiter.
Not to be outdone by the incredible food, Flavours of The City will also feature live music, cooking demonstrations, a craft beer garden, and a kids’ play area. Open from 10am to 10pm on Saturday, and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday, you can bring the whole family and make a make a whole day of sampling the city’s best culinary delights.
