Linden is becoming one of Joburg’s top spots to visit when you’re looking for a quick bite, a delicious meal, or a quality cup of coffee. We looked at the best places to grab some grub around Linden’s 4th Avenue.
A la Bouffe
This authentic French bistro is run by Normandy chef, Romuald Denesle, and is guaranteed to be some of the best French food you’ve ever tasted. Beautiful decor and incredible flavours set this spot apart, and traditional French tastes make for an amazing experience. Visit for Sunday lunch or a date night.
Hashi and El Jalapeño
Linden’s two newest family members are Hashi, which serves fusion Japanese cuisine, and El Jalapeño, which is all about the flavours of South America and Mexico. Hashi blends traditional Japanese cuisine with modern cooking techniques, and El Jalapeño serves authentic Mexican food. Expect spice, intense flavour and unusual tastes. Perfect for lunches and relaxed dinners.
Ritual
Ritual is also new to Linden. Focusing on local and home-made ingredients, chef Sean Ackermann has produced an incredible menu that has something for everyone. Everything is fresh and tasty, so make sure that you’re hungry when you visit – you’re going to want to have space for three courses. A must for fresh lunches and dinners.
The Whippet
It’s almost impossible to get a table at The Whippet on a Saturday morning, but once you do, the coffee is worth it. Breakfast and lunch are incredible, so make sure you visit at varying times of day. There’s also a wide variety of drinks, so you can pop in for a late afternoon lunch and a craft beer or a glass of wine. Visit this eatery for breakfast and lunch.
The Argentinean
An older favourite on the street, the Argentinean is already well known for fresh bread and delicious breakfasts. Popular with cyclists and early birds, the eatery opens early for you to drop in for a coffee and a croissant as soon as you’re up. You can enjoy freshly baked goods as soon as they come out of the oven. Pop in for breakfast and coffee.
