The Pure and Crafted Festival hits Joburg

For two days at the end of this month, Ground in Muldersdrift will play host to the city’s biggest food, music, and motorcycle aficionados. For the first time The Pure and Crafted Festival will take place in Joburg, inspired by Berlin’s own famed Pure and Crafted Festival, aiming to celebrate the burgeoning subculture around motorcycle heritage.

Presented by BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle division of the BMW Group, the festival will feature top music acts including Mi Casa, Prime Circle, Dean Fuel and The Parlotones, as well as incredible newcomers Sutherland and Eva Morgan. Coupled with artisanal food, craft beer and gin, and of course plenty of opportunities to ogle some of the most magnificent bikes in the country through motorcycle displays and stunt shows, it promises to be an incredible day out.

Over the past few years, the culture of motorcycle appreciation has benefitted from a growing love for choppers, cruisers and hogs, spurred on by cycle-centric restaurants like Greenside’s Rim and Rubber. The first of its kind in South Africa, the Pure and Crafted Festival will offer the chance for like-minded motor-maniacs to get together and share their appreciation for these metal giants.

Motorcycle fans of all ages, and riders and non-riders alike are welcome. With such a diverse variety of motorcycle entertainment and experience, there’s something for everyone. Aside from the three music stages, wine stalls, a cheese and olive shed, and numerous food trucks, the festival offers a dedicated kids’ entertainment area, tattoo artists and barbers, and a variety of fashion and lifestyle stands. You’ll want to get there early so that you have a chance to see everything.

The undisputed highlight of the festival, however, will be world-renowned BMW stunt rider Mattie Griffin. Originally from Galway, Ireland, Griffin is internationally ranked as one of the best stunt riders in the world, and his daily stunt shows will be unmissable. Along with BMW GS Trophy team displays, custom motorcycles, and off-road riding, the spectacular motorcycle celebration is guaranteed to rev your engine.
