Staying on top of innovative beauty trends, Carley Studios in Green Point is a new wellness, beauty and slimming salon that offers an array of treatments, including the FIR (Far Infrared) Sauna Dome. Owner Carmen Shamley is a full-time, first-class cabin crew member and runs Carley Studios with the assistance of a strong team on the ground. She tells us more about the business.
How did your business start?
I’m originally from Port Elizabeth and have been living in Dubai for nearly seven years. Working in the aviation industry, I started flying to Cape Town on a regular basis and decided that this was the place for me – the city I wanted to eventually call home. I started looking for business opportunities that I could manage from 40,000ft.
Having travelled the world, I’ve visited many salons and experienced high levels of customer service along the way. I wanted to create a salon that reflects this level of international professionalism and customer service. In April last year, the planning for the salon became a reality and we opened later that year in August. We’ve just rebranded as Carley Studios as a way to explore and grow within the beauty, wellness and slimming industry.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
I love Green Point, its hustle and bustle; it’s a beautiful neighbourhood. Carley Studios is also close to the crew hotel, so it’s easy for my colleagues in aviation to use our services.
How did you find your premises?
I was on holiday in Cape Town, walking around and breathing in the magic of Green Point. The space caught my eye and my heart was immediately set on it!
Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
We’re in the centre of it all – business, retail and residential, the perfect combination! Another plus is that we have parking available for our clients, in an area where that’s often not the case, so it’s super convenient.
Who are your neighbours?
We’re surrounded by residential apartments, Beluga restaurant, Jetline printing, Limnos Bakers, with the Cape Quarter within walking distance.
What are the rental/sales prices like in this area?
The rental and sales markets in the area are very competitive, with new apartment blocks being sold out before construction even starts.
How many people visit your business each day?
We have a consistent flow of clients, with long-standing and loyal customers filling up the treatment rooms on a regular basis. With the new look, name and offerings, we’re excited to see what the future holds!
Do you have any expansion plans?
We’re opening a second Carley Studios in Port Elizabeth this year! The business in Port Elizabeth will also include a hair salon – it really will be a one-stop shop!
Do you operate online as well?
We have various salon products on sale at the studio, which we’ll be offering via an online store.
What’s your most popular service?
The FIR (Far Infrared) Sauna Dome, which has amazing health benefits for natural pain management and relaxation. Then the in-body scanner for body composition analysis. We’re also very excited about our LED phototherapy mask, which includes a neck mask.
