Dr P Aesthetic Lifestyle Centre in Hyde Park focuses on specialist, unique and new skin treatments. The centre aims is to provide the best non-surgical aesthetic treatment, helping clients feel more confident in their own skin. Founder Dr Portia Gumede tells us more.
How did your business start?
I’m a medical doctor and always had an interest in dermatology. It wasn’t until I took time off from medicine that I acted on this passion. In 2016, I researched about the aesthetic medicine industry and business in general and studied towards a qualification through the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, becoming the first black accredited trainer in South Africa for the Galderma brand. My passion was ignited when the Dr P Aesthetic Lifestyle Centre opened in March.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
It’s conveniently located, and Hyde Park Corner caters to a niche market, with many boutique stores bringing in potential clients.
How did you find your premises?
I visited various locations and none were suitable. My husband then suggested I check out a space in Hyde Park Corner. I contacted Hyprop, and the rest is history.
Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
The space offers privacy and the centre is located within an office wing away from prying eyes.
Who are your neighbours?
A chiropractor, dermatologist, architects and a recruitment firm.
What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
Quite affordable compared to retail space within the centre.
How many people visit your business each day?
We opened in March, so it’s too early to say, but we see at least six people each day.
Do you have any expansion plans?
Our focus currently is to grow the client base, and we hope expansion will be driven by demand.
Do you operate online as well?
What’s your most popular service?
Botox, fillers, chemical peels and intravenous drips.
