When renowned Australian activewear brand Lorna Jane moved its South African head office from Strydom Park to The Pivot, Fourways at the end of 2017, an opportunity came up to open an outlet to meet the growing demand for this global brand offering. Monika Hamilton, marketing manager, Lorna Jane SA, tells us more about the new store.
How did your business start?
Creator and pioneer Lorna Jane Clarkson established the brand in 1989 from her home in Australia. Today, the brand is a global phenomenon aimed at empowering women to lead their best lives through the active living philosophy and the daily practice of “move, nourish and believe”, a thread carried through all its designs. The brand has more than 200 stores in more than 60 countries. The Pivot outlet is the eighth store in South Africa.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
The Pivot has the right look and feel and is an ideal setting for our premium brand, given that the precinct has three hotels and a number of high-end facilities.
How did you find your premises?
We approached OfficePlace Commercial Sales & Lettings to find us premises that would suit our target market.
Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
We were able to design our store for personal styling enabling us to host regular events and classes to inspire our clients to live our philosophy.
Who are your neighbours?
Senate Hair Salon, Southern Sun Montecasino and Mangwanani Boutique Spa.
What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
As a result of moving our head office here, we got a good deal.
How many people visit your shop each day?
The store is still new. However, a handful of ladies come through on a daily basis.
Do you have any expansion plans?
Our focus is growing the online store. We’re not planning on opening any new stores in 2018.
Do you operate online as well?
We have an online store and we’re active on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
