With a combined experience of over 30 years in the construction industry, entrepreneurs Andrew Stockil and Shaun Slabber launched Nuvo Energy in Morningside 18 months ago to power African communities through innovative energy solutions. Shaun tells us more.
How did your business start?
Having lived and worked in 17 other African countries, we realised how dire the availability of power was. Nuvo Energy was then launched to offer an innovative solutions-based approach to African problems. Green energy has a much lower environmental impact and Africa has an abundance of clean sources to power itself, countering the need for capital-intensive mega projects for residential, commercial and industrial uses.
Why did you choose this area as your office location?
The Work Space in Morningside is centrally and conveniently located with ease of access.
How did you find your premises?
We started working almost daily from Tea Contessa in Rivonia and soon realised we needed our own space, so the search for offices began. We tried various flexible spaces but they were expensive and not so flexible and The Work Space ticked the right boxes.
Why are they ideally suited to your business?
Our teams are based across the continent, so our meetings take place via video and teleconferencing. Therefore, reliable connectivity here works for our business.
Who are your neighbours?
We have various SME businesses including lawyers, mobile app developers and insurance providers, among others.
What are the office rental/sales prices like in this area?
Very affordable.
How many people visit your business each day?
On average two as we also have off-site meetings at times.
Do you have any expansion plans?
As our business grows, we intend expanding virtually, growing the team and empowering individuals within the energy space as well as launching a retail store with a wide range of products allowing clients at every level of the income bracket the opportunity to empower themselves. Watch this space!
