Although she spent many years in public relations and communications, Keri Krug has always been interested in health and wellness, particularly intravenous vitamin therapy. She is the founder and owner of The IV Bar, and she tells us more about this new concept.

How did your business start?
I went for a few “jet fuel” (energy boost) drips from my GP a while ago and loved the energy they gave me, and so I wanted to give that to other people who don’t necessarily want to go to a doctor’s room. After research, I partnered with an experienced team and in February 2018, The IV Bar, an intravenous vitamin therapy lounge, opened.

Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
BluBird Shopping Centre is centrally located with a number of gyms close by and health services all ideally suited to our business.

How did you find your premises?
It was imperative that I partner with a doctor to ensure the safety of clients, so I looked for an excellent family practitioner who believes in holistic and preventive methods to promote health and wellness. I was referred to Dr Daniel Israel by a few friends. We met and agreed The IV Bar would be beneficial to his existing multidisciplinary medical practice at the centre. There was no space available as all the consulting rooms were occupied by various therapists, so we added our IV lounge on.

Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
I was looking for a space which would enhance my product offering. The centre has an established health space, so it was the perfect spot. We’re part of a multidisciplinary medical team, including a doctor, a dentist, a physiotherapist, psychologist, audiologist and reflexologist. This helps with referrals and offers our clients a safe and comfortable one-stop medical environment.

Who are your neighbours?
BluBird Medical Suites and BluBird Optical.

What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
Better than expected at approximately R280/m2.

How many people visit your business each day?
On average, between eight and 10 people – we can see two people at a time.

Do you have any expansion plans?
N
ot at the moment. We want to focus on getting this to work in Joburg and hopefully roll it out nationally through franchising.

Do you operate online as well?
We don’t sell products online but we have a website,a Facebook page, and an online booking system.

What’s your most popular item?
The energy boost and the skin brightening and tightening drips.
