Station Drive Precinct, Morningside
Hip, happening, cool, trendy… There are just not enough adjectives to sing the praises of this quirky precinct that follows in the footsteps of similar enclaves in Cape Town (such as the Woodstock Foundry) and Johannesburg. Station Drive has transformed a formerly run-down part of town into an art complex of note and here, you’ll find everything from enticing coffee shops, leather craft outlets, bespoke clothing boutiques to photography studios – and even a distillery and brewpub. The Sunday morning market is not to be missed and on First Thursdays, there’s a hive of activity and events plenty of excellent nibbles and drinks to enjoy. This collaborative precinct is just the ticket for small, independent creative companies and the former clothing factory here has been revamped to now house a range of artisanal workshops/studios and co-working spaces and offices. The result? An atmosphere brimming with creativity and hope – making it a joy to visit.
