Opened seven months ago, the Sorbet Salon at Honeydew Village shopping centre in Honeydew is popular for those looking to be pampered, be it manicures or pedicures. Franchise partner Amiena Ally talks about her new business venture and shop.
How did your business start?
Having worked in the financial industry for 24 years, I felt it was time to redefine my life and career as I had no intention of moving on to another corporate company. So I decided to start my business and brainstormed which skills I could build upon, and what people needed. After lots of research and hours on the internet, I decided to look into the Sorbet franchise opportunities available and so Sorbet Honeydew Village opened in December last year.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
It’s ideally located close to my house, with a huge primary catchment area for an existing and potential customer base.
How did you find your premises?
I visited larger shopping malls in the area, however, they all had existing beauty salons and the waiting lists for openings was up to 18 months. Despondent and not wanting to wait, I turned to Google and searched for strip malls with Woolworths Food Store or Pick n Pay within a 15km radius from my home and Honeydew Village ticked all the boxes.
Why are they ideally suited to your business?
The area provides me with a good client base suited to my business, and the centre is located at a very busy intersection, so this gives added exposure to passing traffic.
Who are your neighbours?
Spec-savers and Spot-On Discount Liquors.
What are the office rental/sales prices like in this area?
Affordable compared to similar areas.
How many people visit your business each day?
Eight to 20, depending on the time of the month.
Do you have any expansion plans?
We’ve been trading for six months so the focus, for now, is making this a success first.
Do you operate online as well?
No, however, we’re active on Instagram (@sorbet_honeydew_village).
What’s your most popular service?
The Sorbet Velvet Body Soufflé.
