If you’re a city dweller, you may have visited the Belmond Mount Nelson (affectionately known as The Nellie) for a spot of tea or to visit some travellers making this luxury hotel home for a few days, but you may not have considered enjoying a treatment at the spa. Well, it’s time for that to change.
The Librisa Spa is set on the edge of lush lawns, overlooking The Nellie’s crystal blue pool, and a little-known fact is that most treatments also give you complimentary access to the pool. So after your massage or facial you can laze on a lounger and let that feeling of tranquillity linger a bit longer before you brave traffic to get back to real life.
I was treated to the spa’s newly launched signature treatment: a rose quartz crystal full body massage with a luxurious Thalgo Prodige facial. Why rose quartz? Well, these crystals have been used to prevent ageing since the time of the ancient Egyptians because the natural minerals they hold (silicium, magnesium, iron, sodium and oxygen) are great for renewing skin cells and reducing inflammation.
After the heavenly massage followed the Thalgo Prodige facial, which was the standout part of the treatment for me. It was utterly relaxing, but it’s the effects that will make me come back for a repeat session. After a facial, your skin can typically feel red and puffy (and you don’t dare venture out publicly), but my skin looked radiant and stayed that way the whole day, and a few days afterwards. This may also have been because of the Collagen Booster shot I was given to drink afterwards, which helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
There’s also a complimentary childminding service next to the spa, so you can relax while your kids have a ball in the play area. The spa is set in a heritage building, so while you’re being pampered you can gaze up at beautifully restored intricate ceilings, admire the gorgeous hand-painted silk wallpaper, laze in the conservatory or stand on the balcony and enjoy the view of Table Mountain. This is an absolute haven in the heart of Cape Town, and well worth a visit if you need a break from the stresses of everyday life.
