The Pretoria East suburbs of Constantia Park, Newlands, Waterkloof Glen and Erasmusrand offer residents an appealing, well-established environment to call home, all within easy access of the city’s hottest developments like Menlyn Maine and Menlyn Park.
Newlands, Waterkloof Glen and Constantia Park are adjoining suburbs lying southeast of Menlyn alongside Garsfontein Road (northern border) with Constantia Park forming the combined area’s eastern border with January Masilela (previously Hans Strijdom) Road. With the N1-highway as their western border, this trio of neighbourhoods couldn’t boast a more accessible and central location.
Erasmusrand extends a little further west of Rigel Avenue off-ramp opposite the Armscor premises and the historical Erasmus Castle overlooking the N1. Erasmusrand borders on the Waterkloof suburbs and is a well-kept, mainly residential neighbourhood with quiet tree-filled streets just like Constantia Park, Waterglen and Newlands.
Although the residential parts of these neighbourhoods offer a tranquil and serene ambiance, they’re within easy access of all necessary amenities like Mediclinic Kloof Hospital, Life Faerie Glen Hospital, Garsfontein Police Station, Menlyn Central Post Office, many good schools, as well as commercial and business facilities.
These suburbs are within a few minutes of the R21 freeway to OR Tambo International Airport and are situated on the Gautrain bus network route.
These neighbourhoods are extremely popular with people of all ages to live in due to their strategic location, established infrastructure and scenic settings.
Newlands, Waterkloof Glen and Constantia Park have several apartment and townhouse complexes catering to first-time buyers and individual residents. Many of them are within walking distance of the commercial hub and public transport routes. They’re also ideal for investors, and range in price on average between R700,000 and R1m.
Newlands is an attractive neighbourhood for 50 plussers looking to scale down or enjoy the benefits of communal facilities and care. The suburb boasts several retirement villages and complexes catering to those who only need a studio-type apartment or room and require assisted living facilities as well as those who still lead an active lifestyle and need the space of their own townhouse. The required investment varies from about R600,000 up to R1,5m to R2m.
A large proportion of the remaining residential property here comprises freestanding or sectional title family townhouses, duets and homes in gated areas or estates. This market also caters to various budgets from middle-income to high-income earners. At the top end of the market one will find huge, extended properties sitting high on a hill with spectacular views. These are usually priced at R3m+.
Public high schools catering to secondary and senior secondary phase learners living in these neighbourhoods are Hoërskool Garsfontein, The Glen High School in Waterkloof Glen and Hoërskool Waterkloof.
Hatfield Christian School is a well-known independent school located in Waterkloof Glen. This school offers a full academic, cultural and sports programme to learners from Grade 000 to Grade 12.
With Menlyn Park and Menlyn Maine situated virtually across from the street of Newlands and Waterkloof Glen, residents and visitors to the area have an unsurpassed variety of indoor entertainment to choose from.
Menlyn Maine’s Time Square entertainment hub presents several stay-and-play options – enjoy the nightlife at Time Square Casino, dine at top restaurants, book your tickets to a live performance at the world-class Sun Arena concert venue, and shop till you drop at all the gorgeous retailers situated on the square.
Menlyn Park Shopping Centre is very much focussed on entertainment for the whole family. This is where The Fun Company will kindly take care of all energy reserves of the young ones, while a Nu Metro movie will take their imaginations on flight.
This complex is well-known for its many restaurants offering a diversity suitable for every taste and appetite. The Barnyard Theatre Menlyn presents loads of fun, live music and a relaxed sociable atmosphere for a great night out.
Other leisure activities close to these neighbourhoods include Dyno Karting indoor go-karting, a 19th hole putt-putt family entertainment venue as well as Bounce trampoline park.
Constantia Park is one of the few neighbourhoods which still boasts an excellent library complex, and for those who prefer something slightly more outdoors, there’s the Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve to explore. This sanctuary is in the neighbouring suburb of Moreleta Park and hosts many small animals, buck, birds and plants.
