You’re never too old to learn how to get up on that board and hit the waves like a pro. And where better to get a taste of what this popular sport is all about, than in beautiful Bloubergstrand, arguably one of SA’s top surf spots, with Table Mountain winking at you from across the bay?

The ever-popular Cape Town Surf School is located in Eden on the Bay in Blouberg, just 20 minutes’ drive from Cape Town, and here, you can choose from a variety of lessons, which can be done privately or in a group. These lessons can also be done as single lessons, or as packages of 8 lessons (which work out cheaper) and include:
• Beginner surfing lessons
• Intermediate surfing lessons
• Advanced high-performance surfing lessons/coaching
• SUP (stand-up paddle-board) lessons

Surfboards, wetsuits and rash vests are supplied and all you need to bring with to your lessons are: a towel, some warm clothes, water-resistant sunblock, swimming shorts or a costume, a bag for your personal belongings and a positive attitude!

What better way to get some fresh air, meet new people, learn a new skill and enjoy the beauty of our coastline? Besides, it’s a fantastic way to get a workout. Did you know that surfing not just exercises your large muscle groups enough to elevate your oxygen consumption during the paddling portions, but also while you carry your board up the beach, run out into the surf, and to some extent while you shift your weight on the board? What’s more, it’s also a great core workout: when you hold your upper body forward of your legs and in an extended position, you work the deepest abdominal support muscles necessary to transfer forces from your feet up through your arms.

The school also offers kids’ surf parties, kids’ surf camps, surfboard rentals and wetsuit hire. The activities on their school holiday surf camp range from surf relays to beach basketball and obstacle games – so a whole lot if fun is guaranteed. It also includes treats, cold drinks, awesome food and items like wetsuits, surfboards and rash vests.
