South Africa’s shining culinary talents were honoured at the 2017 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards on Sunday 19 November in Cape Town. The winner of the Rising Star Award was Kayla-Ann Osborn, Head Chef at The Chefs’ Table in Umhlanga.

Kayla-Ann always wanted to be in the kitchen from a very young age. Her style of food is all about flavour. She likes to cook what she likes to eat. Her goal is simple: Focus on the natural flavours of the produce and work out what complements it. “I try to make my food approachable yet exciting”.

The Chefs’ Table opened in Umhlanga in 2016 and has taken the Durban restaurant scene by storm, quickly becoming one of the top hotspots to visit. Kayla-Ann leads a talented team of highly-skilled chefs who produce dishes inspired by local, fresh and seasonal ingredients, all prepared in an open plan kitchen. This delectable food menu is paired perfectly with an extensive wine list, a selection of unique, vintage cellar-stored wines and carefully crafted cocktails by mixologist Lamoure Benton.

Our vision of making food approachable and creating an unpretentious fine dining experience saw them winning the 2017 Gourmet Award for the Best Neighborhood Eatery. In the words of the Conde Nast Gourmet Magazine: “These are the restaurants we keep going back to again and again”.
