There’s nothing quite so Southern Suburbs as a weekend craft market… If you’re looking for organic food, homemade crafts or handmade clothes (or a combination of all of the above!) these are a few of our favourite markets.

Earth Fair Food, Tokai

The Earth Fair Market in Tokai (and also as a pop-up in St George’s Mall) offers the kind of delicious, homegrown and homemade food we all know we should be eating all the time. Whether you’re looking for daily essentials like fresh fruit and veg, treats like nuts and baked goodies or something delicious and homemade for dinner, you’ll find it here. Open on Wednesdays between 3 and 8.30pm, and on Saturdays between 9am and 2pm.

Markets 01

Kirstenbosch Craft Market

Could this be one of the most beautiful markets in South Africa? The Kirstenbosch Craft and Food Market has 230 crafters with everything from jewellery and clothing to handmade soaps, candles and art. There’s also a delicious range of food on offer, from falafels to nachos, farm cheese to homemade lemonade. It’s a very kid-friendly market – and very easy to spend all your money here (don’t say we didn’t warn you!)

Mielie Organic Market, Newlands

Centrally located at the Montebello Design Centre in Newlands, the Mielie Organic Market is held every Friday between 9am and 1pm and sells the most delicious fresh, organic vegetables. Best of all, the market proceeds support township-based organic farmers and the Khayelitsha community garden.

Markets 02

Rondebosch Craft Market

This popular craft market in Rondebosch Park is held every month – and has been for years. It’s closed for the winter (June, July and August) but otherwise you can count on it for your monthly dose of local craft, art and delicious food in a beautiful setting under the trees at this lovely neighbourhood park.
