With so much to see and do in the suburbs of Plattekloof, Panorama, Edgemead and Burgundy Estate, we could barely fit them all in one list. So, here’s our top four attractions that are must-see when visiting the Northern Suburbs.
De Grendel
Located in Panorama, De Grendel is not only a working farm but is also a wine-tasting heaven and foodie delight, all in one. What’s not to like?
Set in the picturesque Durbanville Wine Valley and featuring splendid views of Table Mountain (on a clear day, one can even see as far as Cape Point!), this is the place to taste award-winning wines while hearing more about the fascinating history of this age-old farm that encompasses some 330ha of beautiful land on the slopes of Tygerberg Hill.
The farm includes a healthy dairy component, and here, the name of the game is high-producing cows with long production lives, the careful selection of bulls, a state-of-the-art mating program, genomics to identify the top animals – and the best possible environment to make the animals flourish, of course.
When it comes to wine, De Grendel has a winning recipe down pat and thanks to the fact that this unique vineyard is the only estate with the coveted trinity of sea views, cool ocean breezes and misty nights, their wines are truly exceptional. A core cultivar at the winery is Sauvignon Blanc – which is also one of the area’s most notable wines.
Finally, the restaurant is a not-to-be-missed treat with a mouthwatering menu celebrating classic dishes, locally sourced ingredients and local flavour inspiration. The result is modern, innovative and edgy – a veritable taste sensation with a few delightful surprises in the mix to boot, such as Brandy and Coke ice cream and liquid popcorn.

Edgemead Cricket Club
Since its inception in 1984, this club has been a home to enthusiastic cricketers in the area and currently, it consists of five senior teams, five junior teams and one social side. There’s also a School of Excellence, which provides juniors with expert coaching to improve their game. From its humble beginnings, which included using Edgemead Primary’s facilities at some stage, the club has grown from strength to strength over the years, including developing grounds and a clubhouse of their own.

Golf lessons for adults and little ones are offered and Royal Burgundy is easily accessible from the N1 and N2. The Bunker Restaurant and Sports Bar is just the ticket for some much-needed nourishment, there’s a sheltered braai on offer and an upstairs function area is available to hire for weddings, parties and other functions.
