Craft beer is fast becoming an accepted beverage on our tables. Instead of cracking a can, we’re regularly reaching for bottles borne out of microbreweries, created by passionate brew-masters, rather than gigantic manufacturing lines. Here’s where you can find some of the best craft beer breweries in and around KwaZulu-Natal:
Just upstairs from the phenomenal burger joint in Durban North, Republik, you’ll find BrewHaus. This rock‘n’roll craft bar provides microbreweries with a platform for showing off their very best creations. Get it on tap, in a pint or just grab a bottle and enjoy. With 16 draft varieties on offer, you’ll find something infinitely sippable here.
Odyssey Craft Brewery
A little drive through Durban North into Glen Anil will take you to Odyssey Craft Brewery. For a look-see at how their range of craft beers are created, book a brewery tour, and if you’re feeling like you need a little more edification, enquire about their Beer School. For an interesting twist on things, try the Chocolate Coffee Porter. (Thank us later.)
Porcupine Quill Microbrewery and Deli
Head to the picturesque Valley of a Thousand Hills and do a little shopping at Quills Microbrewery and Deli. Pick up incredible cheeses and then take your pick of the Quills range of hoppy headiness. You’ll learn a little about the process of brewing these incredible beers too, so consider this an educational excursion.
You’ll find Standeaven Brewery’s variety of ales, stouts and Pilsners on sale at Shongweni Farmer’s Market. This is where the team trials the latest brews, so pop in regularly to see what new taste explosions have emerged.
Nottingham Road Brewery
In all likelihood, your first introduction to craft beer came from this establishment. Regularly represented at road shows and exhibitions, the Nottingham Road Brewery’s range can be found at a number of hotspots in and around Durban too. Tiddly Toad, or a Pickled Pig? You decide.
