While wine tasting may be the first thing you think about when you think about the Winelands, there are a whole host of kid-friendly activities to keep the little ones entertained too. We’ve rounded up some of the best ways for the whole family to have a fabulous day out.
The Duck Parade at Vergenoegd, Stellenbosch
Watch the hundreds of ducks who work the Vergenoegd farm in their daily parade, herded by duck herders to the dam, or take in one of the other fun kids options – outdoor games, giant chalk boards or cookie decorating. There are also lovely open lawns to run around on and plenty of farm fresh activities to tire them out!
Eagle Encounters at Spier
Spier Wine Farm has a range of adventures for kids, including a grape juice and wine gums tasting to keep them busy while you sip on their fabulous wines, but the most unique activity they offer is Eagle Encounters. Get up close and personal with rehabilitated birds of prey like eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, kites and buzzards, as well as snakes and lizards. There are also piglets, rabbits, tortoises and chickens to pet – plenty to keep the kids happy!
Franschhoek Motor Museum
This one’s for the kids who love cars more than anything! More than 100 years of motoring history are collected in this special museum, including vintage cars, motorbikes, bicycles and memorabilia – all in the beautiful setting of L’Ormarins. A good bet for older kids as the vehicles on display are the real deal.
Toy and Miniature Museum, Stellenbosch
Visit the delightful miniature world of toys at this charming museum, with their collection of 1:12 scale miniatures, room boxes, antique dolls, dinky cars and the only miniature of South Africa’s famous Blue Train in Africa.
