If you’re ready for something a little more adventurous – and active – than sitting on a wine farm sipping some of South Africa’s best wines, then perhaps it’s time for one of these outdoor activities in the Winelands. From laidback to intense, choose your adventure!

Guided Bike Tour, Stellenbosch

Want to explore Stellenbosch, taste some wines and get some exercise? Why not hop on a bicycle and go for a guided bike tour, leading from the village of Stellenbosch through a few historic sites to the Jonkershoek Valley and a few wine farms. The tour takes 4 to 5 hours and includes a guide, the bicycle and helmet rental, a wine tasting and a wine and chocolate pairing, a cellar tour, and a snack pack and drink – pretty much everything you need for an idyllic (and somewhat healthy!) day in the Winelands.

Fynbos Horse Trails, Wellington

Explore the Cape Winelands on horseback, as you wind your way through the gorgeous scenery to some of the nearby wine farms. From a half-day horseback riding adventure to a 3 day horse trail through the Berg River Valley, there’s something here for everyone. Wine tasting trails and wine and fynbos trails are offered on horseback, and if you’re not an experienced rider there are walks and trails through the beautiful surrounds as well. One of the healthiest ways to indulge in wine…

Blue Rock waterskiing, Sir Lowry’s Pass

Lake Blue Rock is unique because of its location on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains, but also because of the cable (overhead pulling system) that has been constructed, making it ideal for kneeboarding, waterskiing and wakeboarding. With fully trained instructors to help out beginners, there’s something for everyone – even night skiing on Friday evenings!

Cape Canopy Tour, Elgin

If the thought of whizzing over the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve appeals to you, check out the Cape Canopy Tour. This wild ride is a zipline tour made up of 13 elevated platforms on the cliffs and mountain slopes of the World Heritage Site, with slides up to 330m long and a bridge over a double platform. Not for those afraid of heights!

Whether you’re after an adrenalin filled day or a relaxing outdoor excursion, the Winelands has an adventure to suit your mood…
