Design Time School of Interior Design student Carolyn Innes walked away with top honours in the ‘for the love of CONCRETE’ Design Competition with her design Booze Bench, presented by Cape HOMEMAKERS Expo and World of Decorative Concrete (WODC).
Innes walked away with a cash prize of R7 000. In second place was Luka Parkin with her Giza Light Stand (R2 000 prize) and in third place Athena Strates with The Mighty Light (R1 000 prize). Both students are from Design Time School of Interior Design.
Says Sandy Edwards, HOMEMAKERS Branch Manager and Expo Organiser – Cape: “We were completely blown away by the interest in this newly launched competition and hope to build on it. The competition showcases just under 40 of the best and most innovative concrete designs and visitors can bid on their favourites, all in aid of fundraising for DARG (Domestic Animal rescue Group).”
Johan Coetzee, CEO and owner of WODC adds: “Being the leader in the decorative and functional concrete sphere, we are delighted by its success. We have amazing talent in South Africa and the bids on these unique pieces are going really well. We hope the competition will become a regular feature at the Cape HOMEMAKERS Expo.”
Entries are on display at this year’s Cape HOMEMAKERS Expo, which is on until tomorrow and visitors are encouraged to bid on their favourite design – the highest bid secures the piece.
Packed with inspirational ideas and features, including highlights such as the tuis | home theatre, live by Design, Artisan square, take it outside, the market, for the love of Concrete Design Competition and 12 Izitulo Design Challenge, the Expo offers never-to-be-repeated competitions, deals and specials – the perfect opportunity to explore, consider and purchase all the things you need for your home and garden projects.
Tickets are available at the door or from Quicket (http://www.quicket.co.za/). Adults pay R80, pensioners R70 and kids under 12 enter free. The Expo is open today until 8pm, and tomorrow from 10am to 6pm.
