After years in a range of service-intensive industries, Jenni McCallum is only ever happy when she’s interacting with people. It’s what she does best, as her clients at her Zenju Day Spa in Ballito will testify.
How did your business start?
I’ve always been passionate about health and beauty, and I love interacting with people and I wanted to combine those three. I set out to create a superb five-star day spa in the Ballito area. I just needed to find the perfect location.
Why did you choose this area to set up shop?
It’s an upmarket, high-income area, with loads of potential to grow the business and create something really special.
How did you find your premises?
I’d heard that the Coco de Mer Hotel was keen to add a day spa to its offering, so it was perfect and we partnered with each other.
Why are the premises ideally suited to your business?
The location is perfect, near the beach and the forest, with plenty of holiday-makers and locals.
Who are your neighbours?
Aside from the hotel and its guests, there are residential homes on either side of the premises.
What are the shop rental/sales prices like in this area?
They’re quite high. It’s a sought-after area, right on the beachfront.
What is your shop footprint?
It really depends very much on the season, but normally we are fully booked in peak season, and it slows down out of season.
Do you have any expansion plans?
Yes, we’re definitely looking at opening another branch soon.
Do you operate online as well?
We have a website where online enquiries are logged, and we reply with a confirmation of the appointment. It also gives us an opportunity to increase our range of treatments and announce any special offers – our regular clientele (growing fast) knows to check on line.
What’s your most popular item?
Without doubt, the full body massages.
